If you’re planning to rent out your furnished apartments you’ll have to prepare them for showings. First Boston Realty International has created a short how-to on preparing your apartments for rent for being shown. While your Boston real estate agent will actively participate in showing your home, it can be helpful to know what to expect and how to get ready.
- Thoroughly clean your furnished apartments before showing them. You want to make sure that they’re in top shape before potential renters view them. Clutter, dirt, and damage are big turn-offs to those viewing furnished apartments. Renters will quickly judge units by how well they’re taken care of as well as the amenities they have.
- If you’re currently residing in any of your apartments for rent make sure you put away any valuables. Things such as jewelry, electronics, medications, or collectibles should be hidden before showings. While a seasoned Boston real estate agent will keep a close eye on potential renters that come to showings, it is probably best not to risk theft or damage to your possessions.
- Another thing you may want to do if you’re currently living in any of your apartments for rent is to remove any items that strongly personalize the space. Things such as photos, memorabilia, and trophies are often best to remove during showings as they can make it difficult for potential renters to imagine the space as their own. Additionally, for security reasons you don’t necessarily want those coming into your apartment rental knowing everything there is to know about you and your family. While most real estate agents will pre-screen potential renters to some degree, you never know whether or not someone may have hidden motives.
- Make sure you let your Boston real estate agent know if you have any specific requirements such as not leaving the front door open so the cat gets out, not wearing shoes in the unit, etc.
