Tropical Storm Irene hit Massachusetts on the biggest moving weekend of the year to the dismay of hundreds of professionals and college students hoping to move into their Boston apartment rentals that weekend. While Massachusetts did not receive the brunt of the storm, the damaging winds were enough to cause down trees and branches that wreaked havoc on power lines, houses, and cars.
The weekend Irene swept up the coast many colleges were forced to delay student move-ins, though some had thought ahead enough to allow students to move in early. But college students and faculty weren’t the only ones forced to adjust their moving plans because of Irene’s presence. Boston apartment rental dwellers eager to move into their new homes after finding the perfect unit during the rush of the summer were facing the same challenge.
Many renters tried to reschedule their move-in dates into their Boston apartment rentals, but not everyone was able to make the move early. Some renters braved the winds and rain and moved in despite the storm. It’s a bit ironic that the biggest rush of the rental season ended with a bit of drama.
